Welcome to the Purp Alert. A monthly edit of fascinating finds I discover on the internet. I'll be highlighting creatives in all fields that inspire and challenge me to get better at my craft.
When I first discovered Erin's work I assumed that she created geometric paintings with a 3D edge, but after further investigation I realized that her medium was actually photography. The photos shown above are combination of painted boards and tinted Plexiglass used to create bold architectural compositions. Her use of reflective lights, shadows, and overlapping colors are mind blowing to say the least. You can check out more of here work here.
Nadia Lee Cohen
Nadia is such a character herself, its no surprise that her work revolves around American Cenima and artificial figures. Referencing David Lynch's Blue Velvet & the Shining as inspirations, she creates nostalgic and sometimes creepy photos and films. I recommend checking out the recent video she directed for Dram's latest single, Giligan. View it above!
Bianca Mavrick is an Australian based jewelry designer that uses exuberant colors and playful motifs to create her electric sculpture-like jewelry. I'm currently trying to figure out which pair of earrings I should purchase since all of them are so damn good. Shop the collection here.
Through black ballpoint pen ink, Toyin Odutola’s drawings question physical and sociopolitical identities as they pertain to skin color. Treating skin as topography, she creates layers of ink gradients, examining what it means to look or be perceived as black. You can learn more about her work here.
