Personal

Stick to the Plan

Jade Purple Brown

2018 has already started with a bang! I’ve began working on so many exciting projects this month, that I can’t even begin to imagine what the rest of the year will bring.

I believe the sudden surge in freelance clients has a lot to do with my new and improved mindset. This year I made the conscious decision to make my art a priority, and really work on personal development.

This means being more consistent in creating and sharing my work. Rather it be an illustration, painting, or digital work, my goal Is to expand the “JPB” world with each piece I make. It’s also very important for me to take personal time to do things that make me happy + protect my mental health.

Right now everyone is filled with hopes and dreams that slowly fizzle out mid February, but this year I’m going to make things happen for myself. I’m no longer wishing, I’m just doing.

The JPB Shop is Open!

I've been thinking, talking, and straight up procrastinating about having my own online shop for awhile now, but it's FINALY here! The shop currently includes 3 limited edition signed prints that I originally designed in 2015. All 3 pieces deal with identity & mental health, the basis of all my digital art.

Don't be shy, take a look around! Fresh new pieces will be added periodically.  SHOP NOW!

Apartment Update

5 month later, my apartment is finally coming together! I actually feel like I'm living in a real home and not an empty warehouse now. While it still isn't as picture perfect as I'd like it to be (and it probably never will be) I wanted to create this post as a midway mark to show how far the place has come. The next and final update will be an in depth post that will include where you can find all of the items, prices, and maybe even a MTV style video tour. For now, you'll be seeing images I've taken over the past few months as things have slowly come together.

- THE LIVING ROOM -

My living room is my favorite place in the whole apartment. Partly due to the large water color inspired rug, and the crazy sculptural coffee table that I'm so glad I splurged on. A gallery wall with all my favorite artists is hanging over the grey mid century couch. The room is colorful and inviting while still remaining very refined and sophisticated.

- THE KITCHEN -

Since I wanted the kitchen to remain on the minimal side, the only thing added were 2 large back and white frames. The first image that says "Trust The Vision" I designed as a daily reminder to trust myself and to fully believe in all the things I plan on accomplishing. It includes two quotes by my favorite person ever, Oprah Winfrey. The second photo is by the #iconic Peter Lindbergh. Why have a personal trainer when you can have thin 90's super models staring you down as you try to reach for your second helping of pasta.

- THE BEDROOM -

The bedroom now has a large floor to ceiling mirror, grey shag rug, and a seek black dresser, but none of that really matters. I'm wayyy more excited about the statement painting I've been making to hang above the bed. This geometric piece is really going to help pull the room together bring in more shades of pink to this mostly grey room.

- THE BATHROOM -

With black and white geometric patterns covering this room,  I decided to add a fierece monochromatic picture of Naomi Campbell. Smoking a cig and aiming a gun at an eye level view, I oddly thought it would be the perfect addition to the bathroom. Who doesn't love an unexpected touch.

#NewYearNewGoals

IMG_1673.JPG

2016 was a really odd year for me. When I look at the goals that I wrote down for the year, I feel like I've accomplished everything and nothing at all. Moving to New York and getting a job in fashion has been on my list for 2 years and I actually accomplished them in 2016!

But many of my goals were left unaccomplished, due to comparing myself to others and letting self doubt slowly trickle into my life. Instead of looking inward and focusing on myself I chose to turn my attention to what others were doing, but THAT SHIT ENDS NOW.

In 2017 I will make steps toward my goals and focus on my personal and artistic development. This means keeping a distance from social media, experimenting more with my art, working with new businesses, and taking time do things that make me happy with the people I love.

I hope we all have a very productive 2017 and keep focused on the things we hope to achieve.

Much Love,

JPB

Making New York My Home

I've officially been living in New York for 1 month, but somehow it still feels like I'm on vacation. NY doesen't feel like my home just yet, and I think it has a lot do with my very unfinished apartment. The apartment I live in now is actually the very first one I viewed during my week long hunt. I instantly knew it was the one, and I absolutely loved the fact that it would be completely renovated with new hardwood flooring and appliances.

While the space is slowly coming together I thought it would be nice to show a bit of the inspiration and process behind finding the perfect pieces to fill each room.

- THE LIVING ROOM -

For the living room I wanted to go with a artsy contemporary feel with hint of 70's nostalgia. The ceilings are pretty hig, so a large gallery wall with a mix of vibrant and monochromatic art is a must. The 2 orange mid-century chairs will soon be accompanied by a modern light grey couch and a clear sculptural coffee table. My favorite item of the room so far is the water color inspired rug that I ended up taking a huge chance on.

- THE KITCHEN -

I love how the dark grey tiles in the kitchen makes such a strong statement and really give the room character. I want to continue the theme and keep the kitchen very clean and minimal. I plan on adding 2 black frames with striking fashion photography and house plants to add a touch of color.

- THE BEDROOM -

Since  New York is extremely crowded and chaotic, I wanted my bedroom to be a place of peace and serenity. The color palette consists of soothing shades of grey, pink, white, and rose gold for a bit of edge. I plan on creating custom artwork to hang above the bed that will the entire room together. I'm also going to add a huge floor to ceiling mirror, vanity, dresser, and grey shag rug.

- THE BATHROOM -

The bathroom is the easiest space is the apartment to decorate. The space is so small, the fun contrast tiles pretty much do all the work for me. Naturally I went with a black and white theme adding zig zag towels and a geometric white on clear shower curtains. I'll eventually add a simple art piece above the toilet and some subtle hints of gold to give the space more of a luxurious feel.

Making The Big Move

jade purple brown

I finally made the big move to NYC! Iv'e been wanting to move here for the longest, but the timing had=s never felt right until now. I couldn't be more proud of myself for believing in my dreams and deciding to just make shit happen. But don't think it was easy. Uprooting from Chicago to New York was definitely a struggle. I'm so glad I can put months of applying to out of state jobs, flying back and fourth, and trying to find a reasonably priced apartment behind me. If it wasn't for amazing friends and the strong faith I have in myself I wouldn't be living in my dream situation today. I'm excited to embark on this new journey and document everything along the way.

XO,
JPB

If you live in Chicago, you've probably seen his 'Likes This' stickers on random surfaces around the city. You can check out more of his work here
