PROCESS | The_Ones / Zappos

The_Ones is a new retail concept by Zappos that celebrates women in sneakers. I was asked to draw the Nike Cortez, New Balance x-90, and Adidas NMD_R1 to help promote the "Sneaker of The Week" on their website and social platforms.

This project was a real challenge for me, because instead of using my signature color palette, I had to work with the brand colors. Though the colors were a lot less muted then what I generally go for, I was able to create 3 illustrations that celebrate individuality and femininity on sneaker culture.

PROCESS | Lenny Letter

Lenny Letter is a weekly online feminist newsletter created by Lena Dunham and Jennifer Konner. I was asked to create an illustration for Aneesa Bodiat's essay "The Women’s Gym Where We All Look Like Ninjas". She talks about her experience kickboxing with hijab- and niqab-wearing aunties taught her about her own brand of Muslim feminism.

Here's a look at the inspiration behind my illustration. The goal was to show the sisterhood between the kick-ass Muslim women in the kickboxing class. I drew inspiration from Adidas and Nike collections, strong femme friendships + and non-traditional Muslim clothing. The color palette is a representation of the feminine and powerful energy that the group of women possesses. Click here to read the full story.

PROCESS | Brit & Co

I was commissioned by Brit + Co to create Illustrations celebrating Earth Day. Using bright pops of color and a collection of different textures, I illustrated my own interpretation of Mother Earth, the 4 elements, and nature motifs. The Images were posted on Brit + Co's Instagram throughout the month of April as apart of  their Earth day campaign.

Wanting  to provide more insight behind this project, I thought it would be cool to show a bit of the process through the gif images below. You'll see my initial sketches I sent over to Art Director, revisions and the final artwork. A lot more color changes and tweaks were made in between, but heres a small glimpse of what it took to produce this collection of illustrations.

PROCESS | Toyota

I was asked by Toyota to create a series of illustrations that embraces the brands "Let's Go Places" spirit, while celebrating black identity. The outcome was a collection vibrant illustrations that reflect the black millennial woman, living her best life and remaining true to herself. 

This project was a really big deal for me. Having the chance to collaborate with such an established brand was such a blessing. Getting total creative control to create whatever I saw fit made this project even more enjoyable.

PROCESS | R29 Unbothered

I was commissioned by Refinery 29 to create Illustrations for their Instagram account @R29Ubothered. The platform was created and made for black millennial women, celebrating the beauty, strength, and power within the community. I was asked to illustrate Toni Morrison, Nina Simone + Marian Anderson to celebrate their legacy and birthdays during the month of February. I accompanied each illustration with phrases that directly relate to the work of each women. 

This project was really exciting for me since Refinery 29 has always been one of my dream clients. I greatly admire the work of the R29 Design team, so It was mind blowing that they reached out to me and asked me to be apart of this project.
